Give the money to the people

With $700 billion we could give about $2,000 to every man, woman and child in the country. If we didn’t give anything to children or to those making over, say, $175,000 a year, maybe we could give $5,000 to every individual taxpayer or $10,000 to each family. Then homeowners could pay their mortgages. They could keep their homes and the banks would get their money. Then mortgage backed securities would be worth something. Banks could afford to lend again and we could go back to living our lives.

If we give all that money to the banks, who will they start lending to? People who still can’t afford to pay it back?
